Why Training on Sand Works
Increased Resistance
Sand absorbs force and doesn’t provide a stable surface, forcing your muscles to work harder with every movement. This builds strength and power, especially in the legs and core.
Improved Stability & Balance
The uneven surface improves joint stability, ankle strength, and neuromuscular coordination — all essential for injury prevention and better body control in competition.
Reduced Impact on Joints
Sand cushions landings and reduces impact stress on knees, hips, and ankles. It’s a great way to train explosive power while minimizing injury risk.
Greater Cardiovascular Challenge
Running or jumping on sand elevates your heart rate faster than on hard ground, improving endurance and conditioning in shorter time.
Strengthens Tendons & Ligaments
The extra work needed for stabilization leads to stronger tendons, ligaments, and supporting muscles — crucial for pole vaulters and jumpers.
